About Expansion Dance Project
In 2004, Alana founded Expansion Dance Project alongside two local choreographers, Juliana Calderon and Patrick Sandoval. Under her leadership, EDP quickly became one of DC’s most successful hip-hop dance companies. Drawing from Alana’s passion, commitment and background in management, the company produced two sold out annual showcases on a virtually non-existent budget. In 2006, after much success within the company, the directors decided to pursue individual projects. While this was a huge loss to the DC dance scene, it gave the directors a chance to expand their own horizon and pursue separate interest. Alana Hill has since revamped the structure of Expansion Dance Project and the company is now under her sole direction.
Expansion Dance Project currently serves as an arts production support company. This new focus allows Alana to utilize her business background to further expand her own mission in art. “With Expansion, I plan to earn my stripes in this area by providing support to several local productions and projects. Most artists aren’t business focused, and most business-focused individuals can’t create great art. I plan to bridge the gap between art and business. “
